Good news for Bloggers. There may be a pill that lets them watch their computer screen and get their exercise, too—without moving a muscle.
Scientists have found a drug that mimics the effects of a workout by, among other things, increasing the body’s ability to burn fat.
It tricks the muscles into believing they’ve been exercised. Says Ronald Evans, a developmental biologist at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, in La Jolla, Calif., and co-author of a study published in Cell. “It proves you can have a pharmacologic equivalent to exercise.”
In addition to supercharging stamina, the drug, called AICAR, may also be useful in treating debilitating muscular disorders such as muscular dystrophy as well as metabolic diseases such as diabetes, because it also appears to help the body use and remove sugar from the blood more effectively.
The key to this transformation is a protein called PPARdelta, which Evan’s team previously showed could create so-called high-endurance marathon mice. another expirimental drug that targeted only PPARdelta had some metabolic benefits, including lowering fatty acids and blood sugar.
Warning athletes! Evans has developed urine and blood tests designed to detect the drug.

Exercise in a Pill
Today on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
A lady from from Perth, Australia asked Dr. Oz her about her struggle with her weight. She doesn’t like to exercise much. She wanted to know about the exercise pill. Is it healthy, does it exist, and does it work?
Is there a Diet Pill That Works ?
Oprah said, if there was an exercise pill she would have had it and it would have become one of her favorite things.
Dr. Oz said that the study looked at mitochondria. People that exercise have lots of mitochondria that burn calories and those that do not exercise don’t have as much mitochondria.
Researchers developed a pill that they gave to rats and those that received the pills had better capability at exercising and were better at burning calories.
Dr. Oz thinks that there will be eventually pills that will work in humans. He did say that it would be much better if a person can exercise, to actually exercise.

Seems like everyone I know wants to lose weight. It is a fact for sure that most people would like to know how to lose weight.
A recent article by Dr. V.H. Potty, a Food Technologist, discusses in depth a review of the Exercise Pill. “Weight Reduction - The Easy Way.” The good doctor goes into an explanation of maintaining the desired ‘Body Mass Index’ (BMI,) and talks about food intake in comparison to energy used. “A net calorie intake caused by less depletion due to less physical activity will have to be reflected in increased weight consequent to increased tendency for the fat to be stored rather than burning it for physical activity.”
You know all that for sure. Then Dr. Potty goes in to a description of the study of the new exercise pill drugs and the benefits that they will have on weight loss. He explains that AICAR was discovered in 1994 and has been used in treatments of other conditions and that the recent findings by the Salk Institute for the benefit of weigh loss is very new.
“The drug (AICAR) pushes the genome towards a more enhanced genetic tone that impacts metabolism and muscle function. In other words the drug moves the genetics to a more activated metabolic state. This is similar to mimicking the effect of exercise without actually moving the limbs.”
Dr. Potty goes on to say that there is no substitute for essentialy what is diet and exercise, and that these new exercise pills will benefit people with diabetes and obesity to help them with weight reduction.
There is no question about it. this will be the Diet Pill That Works !

This is a wild ride for sure. I first heard about the possibility of a new exercise pill on July 31st. By the next day August 1st, the excitement was all over the news media. It was on TV, in newspapers, health newsletters, Diet and exercise Blogs, and many other places.
I decided real quick to start a Blog to keep track of all of the discussions about these new drugs that I think people would want to know about.
Think about it, other than discovering the Fountain of Youth, what is the single most desired pill that could be invented? You probably guessed right. If it is at all possible to take a pill that would trick your body into thinking that it has been through a strenuous work out, without even having to do any physical exercise, well that would just be Nirvana.
Myself, I enjoy working out, as do many other millions of people. It gives me a chance to concentrate on me, my life and things I plan on doing. I do not have to worry about the daily pressures that we all have when I am exercising. I have a strong feeling that a lot of you are the same way.
Then let’s look at this another way. What if you had a physical impairment or a medical situation that would not allow you to work out? Well this could be one of the greatest medical break-throughs ever. There has been some serious discussion and analysis as to how these new drugs, AICAR and GW1516 might prove beneficial in cases of diabetes.
What if a person was obese and was not able to exercise? Wouldn’t it be great if they could achieve weight loss down to a point that their body would allow physical exercise? Think of the benefits to everyone!
I encourage all of you readers to subscribe to updates to this Blog and I promise to keep you advised of the breaking news as it happens.
Thanks for visiting, bookmark this site now and I’ll see you aging soon.

Scott Miller a well known personal trainer discusses the new exercise pill in his recent article.
Can you really get abs fast by taking a tablet? Recent news reports of the “exercise pill” seemed to raise hopes of being able to lose weight and burn fat without stepping foot in a gym or embarking on a restrictive diet.
Of course, there have been countless other pills to make weight loss claims, so is this one any different, or is it simply another flash in the pan?
So far the exercise pill is said to show tremendous promise, producing many of the exact same effects as rigorous exercise.

Things change fast in the world of Science. It was only about a year ago that one of the major online weight loss websites was discussing the possibility of an exercise pill.
The following hypothetical discussion took place on the Diet Blog in September, 2007 and was in regard to “what if” an exercise pill were to be invented?
From a writer named Crabby McSlacker:
Don’t get excited, scientists haven’t invented one yet. But how many times have you heard that if they could put exercise in a pill it would be a miracle drug because of all incredible health benefits exercise provides?
It’s an interesting mental exercise to pretend that it’s already happened. Suppose there was now a pill that could burn the same number of calories, build the same muscles, and provide all the same health benefits as any amount of exercise you could do.
How much exercise would you get?
* Would you ever go to the gym again?
* Would you keep doing your favorite run every day? Walk it instead? Or stay inside and relax with a good book?
* Would you still stroll the neighborhood streets just to see what’s going on? Or would you just wave to your neighbors from the inside of your car?
* Would you go on a pretty nature hike that was a mile long? Ten miles long? Or go to a movie instead?

Exercise In A Pill: Researchers Identify Drugs That Enhance Exercise Endurance
ScienceDaily (Aug. 1, 2008) — Trying to reap the health benefits of exercise? Forget treadmills and spin classes, researchers at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies may have found a way around the sweat and pain. They identified two signaling pathways that are activated in response to exercise and converge to dramatically increase endurance.
The team of scientists, led by Howard Hughes Medical Investigator Ronald M. Evans, Ph.D., a professor in the Salk Institute’s Gene Expression Laboratory report in the July 31 advance online edition of the journal Cell that simultaneously triggering both pathways with oral drugs turned laboratory mice into long-distance runners and conferred many of exercise’s other benefits.
